Our Approach

We collaborated with our partner on three key projects: rebuilding their internal platform, developing a new texting app, and creating a scheduling solution. Each project followed a structured process, ensuring we addressed their unique needs and delivered a cohesive, scalable system.

Project 1: Rebuilding the Internal Platform

Deep Dive Discovery & Strategy

We began by diving deep into ISS’s workflows, focusing on their dual-customer structure—city-based clients and large onsite customers. Our goal was to create a platform that could streamline operations for both types of clients while improving data accuracy and onboarding.

Data-Driven User Experience

We transformed the existing portal with a more intuitive, user-friendly design. The new layout utilized large-format “cards” for easy navigation and improved visual appeal. We made data-heavy tasks simpler and more intuitive for users, ensuring they could easily find the information they needed.

Iterative Development

We leveraged our .NET expertise and multi-portal website capabilities to build a new, scalable system custom to ISS's needs. As part of this effort, we seamlessly migrated ISS's historical data into the new Custom Client Portal (CCP) and integrated it with third-party systems for payroll and employee management. Features were developed in stages, tested continuously, and refined based on feedback after each iteration, ensuring the platform's scalability and stability.

Project 2: New Texting Application

Deep Dive Discovery & Strategy

The second project focused on ISS’s outdated texting app, which lacked integration with the CCP and had performance issues. We worked closely with their Chief Information Officer to define clear objectives for a new app that would integrate seamlessly with existing systems.

Data-Driven User Experience

Drawing from lessons in Project 1, Engage designed the texting app to include seamless workflows and real-time data syncing. The interface featured slide-in views and enhanced interactivity, inspired by ISS’s feedback and requirements.

Iterative Development

The texting app was developed and tested in a staggered release over six weeks. Engage worked with trusted ISS staff for early testing, incorporating feedback into iterative improvements. The app launched successfully on March 3, 2023, with minimal disruption.

Project 3: Scheduling Application

Deep Dive Discovery & Strategy

The third project tackled ISS’s scheduling challenges by conducting extensive user interviews with over 20 staff members to better understand workflows, pain points, and requirements. The research revealed high error rates due to double bookings and inefficiencies in the old system. Initially, Engage attempted to fix the existing applications, but it quickly became clear that rewriting the system would be a more effective solution to meet the organization’s needs.

Data-Driven User Experience

We designed the new scheduling app with intuitive workflows, real-time updates, and seamless integration with the CCP and texting app. Features like the “Ask for Help” button were added to reduce scheduling errors by allowing staff to easily escalate issues when they couldn’t manage a booking. This user-focused approach ensured both systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with ISS’s needs.

Iterative Development

Developed iteratively with user feedback at every stage, the new texting system and scheduling app are built for efficiency and adaptability. The texting system integrates advanced features like a language translator, a centralized activity log, and a mass text tool to streamline communication. It also intelligently syncs historical data when contact information changes.
